Yvette and her husband Anthony hail form NYC where they lived and developed their professional careers, Yvette at NYU and Anthony as an acupuncturist in SOHO.
Yvette heard of our practice 2 years ago while volunteering in Chiapas Mexico teaching cervical cancer screening techniques. A pathologist from Windham Hospital, also volunteering, found her style and passion for women’s health a great match for Mansfield Ob/Gyn. On a cold January day we all met and agreed we had shared values and ideas rooted in the vision of excellence in women’s health and strong family values.
Since arriving to our rural community, Yvette and Anthony have longed for the days of sushi delivery like in NYC, but have decided it is a small price to pay for the wonderful community they have joined. They have found very good restaurants for local dining, one of their favorite past times, and have discovered country life to be beautiful. They enjoy the surrounding hiking trails as well as the theatric arts at UCONN and the Bushnell.
Yvette continues to work as a volunteer through Grounds for Health, screening for cancer in the third world. She has also maintained her ties with the March of Dimes as the Spanish speaking spokesperson for their informational videos on prematurity and reproductive health. Her passion for education has opened opportunities to serve as mentor to Windham High School and UCONN students interested in the health professions.
“I continue to do all the same work I did in The City without the chaos of City life. Indeed the Universe always conspires to give you what you need.” Yvette Martas, MD
